It’s good to know that social signals are in fact ranking factors.

I hope people use this information in the right way though. Google is smart these days so I don’t think spamming Facebook or Twitter will do much good.

Instead, try to get a genuine following who is sharing your stuff.

interesting original article by Dan Sullivan, social networking link building has just added another complex arm to the wonderful world of seo. SEO was hard enough to understand with this added feature. Matt has mentioned tweet links act as a ranking signal, but how does google determine the actual importance of the tweet if google doesnt collect any personal data from social networks?

Hi Michael –
I was using Google’s Chrome browser. However, out of curiosity, because I thought it may have something to do with Chrome specifically, I was able to see it in Firefox and Safari but interestingly enough, NOT in Internet Explorer. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I’ll have to make note of it in the blog post itself.
