SEO as you probably know stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. And what SEO is, is nothing more than a process to get your website listed on the first page of Google or any other major search engine for a word or phrase related to your business.
One of the main reasons people turn to SEO is simply because when you can get one of those top listings, you get that listing for free, you don’t have to pay for it.
When you do a search within a search engine such as Google, you might have noticed that only 10 natural or organic web sites listed on the first page (this is aside from the paid listings which are usually located at the top and to the right of a Google search results page). Usually out of millions of web pages. And what SEO helps you accomplish is to take over one of these top ten positions, legitimately.
Even Google promotes and suggests that sites use ethical SEO standards. So much so that they’ve even come out with their own basic SEO overview guide which you can get by visiting Google and searching on “Google SEO Starter Guide”.
When you first start optimizing your own site, you’ll find that there are two sides to the SEO coin. There’s on-page optimization and off-page optimization. On-page SEO are those optimization factors that you have direct control over. Whereas off-page SEO is in essence, link building. That is, getting other sites to link to you because of the kind of content that you offer and what you don’t have direct control over.
